LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
(Per Uniteo Press Association). Wellington, July 28. The Council met at 2.30. The Hon. Mr Stevens moved that in tho opinion of this Council a judicial separation decree may be granted by Magistrates, in cases in which aggravated assaultupona wife has been proved, and that the Government; be requested to introduce a Bill this session giving effect to the motion. A long debate ensued, in the course of which the Hon. Mr Buckley said the Government had no intention of introducing such a measure this session, Personally, he was opposed to the Bill as being calculated to weakeu the marriage tie. The motion'was" carried by 19.t0 9, The Police Offenders Act Amendment Bill, dealing with brothels, was further considered in Committee. The Hon, Mr Pulton proposed a new clause making ltponalfoi anyone keeping or leasing a house for immoral purposes. After some' dobate progress was reported on the Bill, and leave was given to sit again. • ~ The Council rose at 4 o'clock
