PATEA NOTES.
(Feom our Own Cobbebfondbnt.) Patea, May 30. The Police Station bridge is being raised by Mr G, Dickson, contractor forthe County Council, and will be completed next week, the traffic in the meantime going on as usual. The raising of the bridge will be a great improvement, both in appearance and for convenience. Tho Aoreri and Waitapu left for Nelson and Wellington respectively at midnight on Thursday. Mr Charles Finnerty, our late Mayor, has been created a J.P. I congratulate Mr Finnerty oh his appointment, and judging from his careful attention to his duties in this capacity whilst Mayor of the Borough, believe he will be an acquisition to the Bench At a meeting held at the Albion Hotel last evening, it was resolved. That a brass band be formed ; 11 expressing their wish to join. Mr T. C. Hammerton was elected Bandmaster temporarily, and Mr A. A. Gower, secretary and treasurer.
