PROSPECTUS OP THE -VET ANGANUITjUSHING COMPANY (limited). Capital, J62500 in 2500 Shares at £1 each. Payable as follows :— 2s 6d per share on application, 2s 6d on allotment, and the balance -by Calls, not exceeding 2s 6d, per share per month. PROVISIONAL DIRECTORS. Mr J. Whiting Mr J. Murray Mr J. H. "Whiting Mr J. Grane Mr H. Hurley Mr F. Stringer Mr Mills | Mr J. Truesell Mr A. Sykes. This Company is. being formed for the purpose of placing in the Wanganui Markot, and the districts available, regular supplies of fresh fish. / It iB intended that the Company shall work, at the outset, one steamboat and one smack, for the purpose of deep sea fishing, and to carry on its operations in any waters that may be within easy distance of the Port of Wanganui. The temporary office of the Company will be situate I on Taupo Quay, Wanganui, where all information respecting the Company may be obtained, and applications for shares made. It is proposed that tho Company shall erect and carry on a Freezing works in Wanganui, bo that a regular supply of fresh fish can be kept up at all seasons. It is estimated that fish to the value of over i>2ooo per annum, at retail prices, can be desposed of in and around Wanganui and the Townships contiguous tx it. The following are somo of the fishes that are available to the Company : — , Flounder Hapuka Herring Schnapper Red Cod Gurnard Travalli BlueOod Mackerel Mullet Mullet Soles Whitebait Kawhai The Wanganui Bar, and aIEO theposhior of the Port of Wanganui, have been a dis tinct drawback to any fishing industry as carried on in the present primitive man. ner, and it is confidently predicted that the markets of Wanganui and its neighbouring townships can consume a much largei quantity of fish than it has been possible to supply by the means now in use. Thai fish may always be caught, and thai there are large quantities in the "Wan ganui Bight at times, are beyond doubt: and it is also well known, that the Sound! and the fishing grounds round the islanc of Kapiti, might be tnade to contribute their marine riches to this market. It ii hoped that the proposed Company wi) perform the double work of placing ai abundant and regular supply of fish ii our markets, which will be a great boot to the public, and of paying a good divi. dend to the shareholders as a reward foi their enterprise. It is estimated that the above men tioned Company, having one steamboal and one Bailing smack, would average 122 working days in the year, and thai the earnings would average, for fiesh fial in gross, £6 daily, <per vessel, or a tota of .£1464 as the results' of the deep set fishing, and .£3OO for river fish, wbict can be caught when the -weather is not fil for outside fisning, making a grand total of .£1764. The fishermen -would work foi two-thirds of the hett takings (that ii the gross takings, as above described, lesi the working expenses of the Company) The other third wouid be the property p: the Company, and should give a fair divi dend to the shareholders. The firm of J. Whiting & Co. offer tbeii smack, "the Castlecliff, and plant to thi Company for £430 j and .Mr J. H. Whit ing, one of the firm, offers to manage tin Company, act as wholesale salesman, anc in fact, do all the clerical and businesi works of the Company for 7-J per cent, on the gross sales, and will bind himself t< do so for twelve months from the incor poration of the Company. MARKETS. If the Company have fish to the amouni of £1764 to dispose of in twelve months the following is a possible way of selling the same : — There is a sure market ii Wanganui and the district round aboul it, for .£27 worth per week, which woulc supply three hawkers with 30s worth each per day. This is only a fraction over « half-penny a week for each inhabitan counting 10,000 as within their reach The effect of a regular supply would pro bably be to increase the demand veri much, as intermittent supplies neve; create the demand that regular supplie do. The outlying districts of Wanganu might be expected to take fißh to thi amount of £25 per week. If the fisl should be more than usually abundant other markets can bo found. The Provisional Directors have gom very carefully into the matter, and fin< that for the., Bum of .£2250 they can pur chase Messrs Whiting & Co's Plant an< Interest, a small steamer, trawls, and : small Freezing machine, and erect a suit able Freezing Chamber well adapted fo the purpose of the Company, and severa suitable leasehold Bites are available oi which to erect the Company's building at a reasonable rental. The Provisional Directors have ah* made full inquiries as to the probable re turns from both the Sea and River Fish ing, and from an investigation' int Messrs Whiting Bros.' books they ar confident that not less than .£1404 will^b realised from the Sea fishing, and £30 from the River by line and net fishin; alone, and as they have evefy reason fc believe that trawls can be succeasfull; worked/the returns may be much largei They also estimate that after paying al Woiking expense's, Fishermen's two thirds, Interest, and allowing a fair sue for depreciation, the net return to th Company will not be less than 7 per cent based upon Line Fishing returns, so tha this is a very fair return from Line Fisli ing alone; and as we have befefre statec we have every confidence in the ultimat success of the Trawl Fißhing, which wil very greatly increase the returns.
