DUNEDIN ITEMS.
[Per United Press Association.] Dctnedin, May 28The Honi Mr Seddon to-day paid a visit of inspection to the defence works at Dunedin and Port Chalmers. He gave instructions that proper quarters should be erected for the men at the central battery. This afternoon the Hon. Mr Seddon received a deputation from the Fair Kent League, who advocated the introduction of a Fair Rent Bill. The Minister stated that, while prepared to deal with cases of great hardship, for which there were many procedents, the Government's duty was to conserve the rights of property, and this they would do. At a largely attended meeting at theTheatre to-night, it was decided to form a National Liberal Association, and Sir R. Stout was appointed President. The Hon. Mr Seddon presided, and in the course of his remarks on the policy of the Government, said that so lone? as he was Minister all public works would be carried out on the co-operative principle.
