The course and enclosure, thanks to Mr O'Leary (the custodian) and the beneficial effects of the late, rains and succeeding fine days, were in excellent condition. There was a goodly sprinkling of the fair sex present. Mr Jackson (secretary) and hts able assistant' (Mr Couchman) fulfilled' the onerous 'duties assigned to them in a most satisfactory and obliging manner, a fact attested to by all those who had any business to do with them. Mr S» Powell wielded tie starter's flag, and got his fields well away. The highest fa-ibnte'that could be paid to the haadicapper (Mr Hately) was the manner in which the flat races finished, the finishes boing the closest seen on the -Wanganui course for many years. - The Stewards alii worked '"niosfc assiduously, individually and collectively. Not .'the least pleasant contribution to the day's enjoyment was the selection of music. performed by tbe Town Band, under Bandmaster Richardson. Mi E.McElwain, in charge of the booths, ministered to the wants of thirsty souls, and? did.: a fair trade. Mrs Reid bad a goodly display of fruit, &c., and was well patronised. .Mr Dustin had luncheon prepared in his usual recherche style. All the races were got off punctually to time, thus allowing country visitors to witness the last race without any fear of losing the train. Among the improvements we noticed were a new Stewards' room added to the other offices, and a number of enclosed seats in the saddling paddook. Although spilta were 1 the order of the day happily no serious I accidents occurred, though some of the riders were badly shaken.
