' Eight Maories were charged at Kaiapoi, before Mr Greenfield, R.M., on Monday, with taking trout from the Waimalrariri without a license, and in a manner contrary to the regulation. The cases were taken, separately, and after hearing a ]arge quantity of evidence were adjourned , 'to March 9. The Maoris base their defence on their right of fishing under the Treaty of Waitangi.
