THE FIRE BRIGADE.

THE COMING COMPETITION. A five-men hose and reel competition will take place between teams of the Fire Brigade, on the 10th proximo, for prizes given by Messrs Tingey and Collier, and. several honorary members of the corps. The following teams were picked last night, and will go into training at once for the event : — No. I— Kitchen, Copeland, Gray, Paul, and Bason. No. 2— Sharpe, Connell, Thompson, Batkin, and Morton. No. 3. — McGonagle, Carrel, Barr, Armstrong, and Townsend. No. 4— Battle, Davenport, H. Townsend, Eamson, and Jarrett. Looking at them on paper the foregoing teams are as equal as it is possible to make them, so the result of tho competition should bo awaited with interest. The following are the conditions of the competition: — Reel to be placed 50yds from plug (to be selected), men to stand 10yds behind reel. When the signal is given to start, the men run to reel, pick it up, and run it to plug, put down standpipe, couple on 100 ft of hose, which has to be taken up a ladder about 15ft high, with branch pipe attached, then return the reel to plug (within 12ft of same), and run off a second length on the outside of the first, attach branch pipe, and turn on water. The time to bo taken from both branches showing a full jet of water. The ordinary working gear to be used, and all penalties strictly in accordance with those of the Association. The foreman of each team to have the first pick of the five prizes, and the remaining four to be drawn for.
