THE NEW PLYMOUTH MURDER.

Sole : j ,stated that ho sitw tho prisoner at a shop ; in Devon-stvoot, between 11 and 12 a.m. : • on tho day of tho murderi Inspector \ Pardy swore that Solo told him he did • not see the prisoner on that day till 3 p in. He also contradicted the evidence ' ! of tho witness Briscoe called for the de- '. T fence, on the same point to prove an alibi. I An altercation occurred between Mr , ' Samuel and Inspector Pardy. Mr Samuel ' asked Inspector Pardy if ho had not ' " asked Mrs Newland to get her son-in-law ' to contradict what ho had told Sergt. Duffjn, and he (Inspector Pardy) would , report favourably on a suspicious fire ' that had occurred at Mrs Newland's j house, which was then under investiga--1 tion by the police. Inspector Pardy indignautly denied this, and the Judge : , said Mr Samuel should not have asked such a question unloss he was prepared t to prove it. The Court adjourned till Monday.
