Association.] i Dunedin, Match 20. f§ At a meeting of the Exhibition Commissioners to-day, it was decided to definitely close the Exhibition on 19th April, and notico is to be given to the orchestra that they will not bo required. ■ beyond the 12th proximo. At the Police Court to-day, Mr Croiibie, Deputy Tax Commissioner, prosecuted Messrs James Hume, John- Waldio, and '. ' A. D. Ktitherford for neglecting to furnish statements of. their property. Mr Carow, R.M., decided from the evidence that the neglect was not wilfnl, and, therefore, came under suction 116. Ho lined oach defendant ,£5 and 7s costs. At a meeting of the Dunedin Poultry and Dog Socioty, called by requisition, the cause of tho split in tho Society which led to fcho Dog Show boing abandonod, was discussed. Tho President, it . ■ - appears, declined to call a mooting, but ivith a viow to healing the broach, a committee was appointed to confer with the President. Tho clothes of a man were" found on tho beach near Layers Head, last evening, and it is supposed to be a caso of suicide. In tho waistcoat pocket was . found a slip of paper, on which wa3 written " David Elgin," and a pocket ■ handkerchief was marked "J. Murphy." . Some of the servants at the Beacli Hotel think they recognise the clothes as thoso worn by a man who called for a bottle of beer, and one. of ginger ,ala, and at tho. samo time Irorrowod a corkscrew, whioh has not been returnod. The prints of bare feet wero noticeable, leading from tho clothes to tho ocean. A search was made all day along tho beach for tlio body, but without effect.
