THE BRAZILLIAN REBELLION
TO THE EDITOB. . . • Sib,— By inserting the following in your widely-circulated and instructive' ■ •newspaper, you will greatly, oblige: — No doubt the public will be pleased if . you would concede the request of :'QJ?."' re the Brazilian revolution, as many old; as well as young colonials, would be. much interested in any particulars con-, cerning- so vast a country. However, I may say right here that young and old' . colonials have perhaps as good an idea of 600 miles as " Q.F." has, and believe their fancies areas capable in every. re- . spect. Of the capabilities of Brazil wo ' may be a trifle ignorant, but we are not ignorant of the cloak, "Q.F." .uses io . - vent his splenatic powers against, a band, * of such hard-working' and honourable men, namely, Prie3ts and their craffc:' , If '• G.F." is not blind and deaf, he can ' see and hear priests giving instructions ... : every day to the young and advice to the ;'. • old, a little of which " G.F." is much in ;• need. I imagine "G.F." to be one of those people to whom the sight of a , priest is like a red rag to a bull, and the wonder is that he can lire in a country where a priest can be found. Why not have them all killed just by' way', of .gratifying "G.F.'s" spleen? '-G.F." might then rule according to his own sweet will, and be the means of bringing ' about that happy result of having only. ■>* one religion, and " G.F." its father.' Perhaps he would not then be satisfied^ be-' : . cause he would not have 'any priests or their craft to write about. Why does not "G.F" and his ilk do like the the Brazilians— shake off the intelligent ruler he now owns allegiance to/and go and help the Brazilians to keep away their late ruler and the priests. Whata glorious time he would have in hanging all the priests he, could catch. Let "<x.F." go and be Emperor of such a wonderful country. New Zealand and her colonists would no doubt be pleased to say adieu to such a man as your letter in the Weekly Chronicle shows him to ' be. We do not want his stamp to instruct us in anything. Should "G.F." again ask the editor of the paper in which his letter appears to give the publib particulars of any country, he should ■. allow the editor to do so, and not answer ,' his own questions, as he has done in the* letter in question, and so save the public reading disparaging comments on priests j and their craft.— l am, &c, I ■ Coloniu,.
