♦— — The ordinary monthly meeting of tho WanganuiCountyCouncilwasheldyesterday. Present :— Or. Smith (in the chair), Jones, Noilson, and Morgan. ■ Minutes : Tho minutes of the previous ordinary and special meetings were read and. confirmed. Bank balancb : The bank books were laid on the table, and showed a total dr. balance of JBSIB 14b Id. CiiEekship: The newly appointed clerk Mr E. Barns, submitted the names of Messrs J. Thain and A; Barns as Bondsmon. On the motion of Cr. Jonea» seconded by Cr. Smith, the names 'were approved of, and it was resolved that the Council's solicitor prepare the necessary document. ' ■ . . Town Bridghs : A letter from the Harbour Board was read re the painting of the Town Bridge. Letter received. Auditing: The Auditor-General wrote reqesting the payment of £14, 10s, to the public account— On the motion of Cr. Smith, seconded by Cr. Neilson, it was resolved that the Department be referred to Sections.l 74-5 and 6 of the "Counties Act 86," and that the clerk enquire whether the Department had any authority in the matter., Subsidies : The Wangaehu Eoad Board wrote applying for subsidies for" the years 1887-8-9, and Crown and native land rates for the year ending March 81st, ' 1889. Held over till next meeting. BaiiAnck-sheet : The balance-sheet for the half-year ending September 30th, and for the month of October, 1889, was laid on the table. ■ ■ - ' • Fobeman j 8 Ebpobt : The foreman's re- . port, which referred to the works dona and in progress, was read and adopted, Kaitokb : The Committee appointed reported on the Kaitoke petition to; be . made a separate Eoad Board, and stated that the same was in order, but aaked that the matter be held over till nan: meeting. Agreed to.' ••'-■- • ' \ ■ Accounts: Accounts to the amount of . £64, 14s were passed, for payment. A sum of .£97 was also voted \o Downea and Coupe to be paid to them provided; their contract was completed. '_ . ' ■•": . Tbactio By-iaw : On the motion of Cr Neilson seconded by Cr Smith, it was resolved; That so far as the : traffic! ; by-lawa • are concerned the foreman be instructed not to enforce the by-law on wool'drayr carrying not, more than seven bales, on two wheels, and 12 bales on four wheels ' with narrow tires, until the «nd «f February next. .•■•,,,;..
