[Per United Press Association.] ' ■;,••,■• Bx.ENIIEIM,^May l'l. '■'■ An inquost was held to-day on -Michael Dowling, who died at tho Hospital yesterday while xinder chloroform. The post, mortem examination showod that tho deceased's heart was rather enlarged and very pale, and no blame was attached to ,the medical man who , administered the. chloroform. The verdict of ' tho jury was that the deceased died froni.the effects of chloroforuit . ' A'jinatch took place to-day between F. Gaukrddger, a well-known Marlborough man, and J. Bain, a sprint runner hailing from Canterbury and Otago, tho distances beino- " 100, 220, and 440 yards, for .£2O a side." Bain won tho 100 yards by about half 'a yard, but Gaukrodger ran. clean away from him in the other two events.' In the 440 yards Bain was beaten before half the distance had been covered and did not finish, The match came off on the Kacecourse, before a largo number of spectators. \ ,
