A smart attempt at au original style of advertising was defeated by the Victorian metropolitan press tlio other day. Amonst the entries for the Cup was a horse named the Tom Boy, entered by Carrie Swamp, for which the usual deposit was paid. In making out the list the clerk contrived that this , entry should head the list. Of course it is usual for the public to rush to see the list of horses for the Cnp and Derby, and if the little affair had gone off it would have' pi-rived ;i line puff fur the Theatre Royal. But the '"' vigilant eyes of the Melbourne newspaper sub-editors penetrated the. tjame and struck out the entry. Someone hud the pleasure of paying £5 for nothing.
