LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
(Per United Press Association.) Wellington, June 28. The Speaker took the chair at 2.30. In answer lo Sir George Whitmore, the Attorney-Geueral said that schoolmasters had no right to shut up public schools for the purpose of performing other duties. The Hon. Mr Wilson moved, That a Committee bo appointed to report whether Sir Frederick Whittaker, and the Hons. Pharazyn, Oliver, and Waterhouse were disqualified from sitting in the Council through absence. Upon the suggestion of the Speaker the Hon. Mr Wilson withdrew the motion, in order to so amend it as to come within the standing orders. The Hon. Mr Mnntell moved a series of resolutions in connection with certain expenses drawn from the Treasury by the Wellington members of the Council! and asking that Government should legislate to avoid a recurrence of the transaction. The motion was carried on a division by 20 toG. The Imprest Supply Bill was read a second time and passed. On the motion of Sir George Whitmore it was agreed, That a Committee be appointed to make an inquiry into the amount expended iii connection with the Gisborno Harbour Loan. I The Council rose at 5.25.
