ACCIDENT TO TH E WANGANUI TRAIN NEAR MARTON.
i By some means-— at present unex- ) plained, owing to the meagre informal l tion obtainable when the train reached ' town late last night — aa accident happened last evemng in the vicinity of tne Marton junction, to the train that left ' Wangamji at 2.15 yesterday afternoon, ; The result was that the engine, with two ' wagons and one carriage, were thrown oft' the rails. To obriate inconvenienea as much, aa possible, steam was at onoa got up in the engine used by the con- i tractor, and, after a delay of nearly two hours, the remainder of the train was despatched to its destination, The train reached Foxtou at 11.20 p.m., and the up train for Wanganui at about 1J..35 p.m. At 11.45 a " special" was despatched to Iho scene of the accident, to render assjs.fcacce. An inquiry will at once be held by iUj.o into the cwse of the accident ,
