POLICE RAID ON A CONSULTATIONIST.
(PER TOOTED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, May 27This afternoon the detectives mado a raid on a tobacconist's shop in WilHaatreet, and seized a number of articles, which they allege were being used ou the principle of a totalisator, and that i the investments were ou the Grand National Steeplechase and Hurdle l.ace at Christchureh. Among the articles seized were two large sheets of cardboard, on which were the names of tho race and horses engaged in it ; while under the name of eaoh horse was tha number of investors on that particular horse, the total number of investors on each race, being at the top of the sheetIndia rubber stamps, a number of tiokets bearing the horses' names, and about £50 iu cheques and notes were also taken possession of. The names of all the porsons in the shop wero taken, and it is understood the police will lay an information under the Gaming and Lotteries Aot against Mr Mandol, who occupies the premises. w_— . __—__——■——_— — _ _i»
