Mned ICte, with the option of 48 hours' imprisonment. — Thomas Brown, for being drunk, was fined ss, with the alternative of 24 hours' imprisonment. CIVIL CASES. Gavin Hamilton v. G. F. Baker, carpenter, Manutahi. — JSTo appearance of defendant. — Judgment for £3 Is 6d, for work done, with 7s costs. Frederick Charles Smith v. John Sheehan. Claim for £48 on three promissory notes, the evidence of plaintiff being taken here for transmission to Auckland, where the summons was issued. — Plaintiff deposed that the promissory notes were for £33, and respectively, and were given by Mr Sheehan in payment of money advanced. Part of the amounts had been repaid, and a balance of £48 was now due. The notes were made payable at the National Bank, Wellington, but plaintiff had not presented them, but had agreed, at the request of defendant, to hold them over. Payment of the balance had been asked for, but without success. Plaintiff saw defendant sign each of the promissory notes in Auckland. This concluded the business, and the Court adjourned. —^ ■»
