SERIOUS COACH ACCIDENT
(per united press association.) Opunake, n ov. 16. The heavy rain caused a fresh in the river. Yesterday, while tha Parihaka coach was crossing the Oanui River, 1 torrents of water came down suddenly, sweeping the coach, horses, and driver away. The driver went with the current until he managed to get on one of the banks, and thus esoaped. The horses were found dead on the beach two miles from the scene of the' accident, and the front of the coach has been seen. The English mails were on board, and a search party has been out. It is expected the mails will be recovered to-day. Netv Plymouth, Nov. 16 Yesterday afternoon, as Cobb's coach, < from New Plymouth to Opunake, was '■ crossing the Oanui stream, two miles this side of Opunake, it was caught by a strong rush of water, which smothered the coach, and washed it and the horses 1 into the sea. The driver, Charles Tilly, n escaped, and the passengers had left the 1 coach to go over the river another way. ( The mail and luggage, however, was all washed to sea.
