WELLINGTON.
December 13. A slight shock of earthquake was felt at one o'clock this morning. The ship Orari, 101 days from London, is anchored at the heads. The complete returns for the Tauranga electoral district give Captain Morris a majority of ten over Mr G. V. Stewart. The first information under the Corrupt Practices Act has been laid against the Hon. Charles Johnston Pharazyn, M.L.C., for plural voting at the Thorndon election. The alleged offence is that Mr Pharazyn voted at both Thorndon booths, and the Returning Officer has, as authorised by the 30th clause of the Act, instituted proceedings against him. The case has created great excitement here. Carey's Juvenile Pirates open on Monday night. Mr J. C. Williamson, with a strong dramatic company, leaves Melbourne for New Zealand on Wednesday, opening at Dunedin on Boxing night.
