BAND OF HOPE TEA MEETING.
♦ One of the most interesting gatherings of our young friends that we have had the pleasure of witnessing for some time, assembled in the Trinity Wesleyan Schoolroom on Tuesday evening, on the occasion of the annual tea meeting, given by the friends and promoters of the Wanganui Band of Hope. Between 350 and 400 sat down to a splendid tea, prepared in Mr G. Hicks's well-known style, and presided over by the following ladies : — Mesdaines Williams, Horn, Bassett, Hicks, and Braithwaite ; Misses Foreman, Turner, Young. S. Sargeant, A. Sargeant, Styles, Clark, Nicholas, Day, Kirk, Hon wood, Mailman, and Battle. At the conclusion of the tea another treat awaited the audience, in the shape of an entertainment, in which the following ladies and gentlemen took part: — Chorv.s, "Army of the Brave," Choir; address, Chairman (Rev. W. J. Willirns); chorus, "We shall do it by-and-by," Choir; recitation, "Why People Drink," Master E. Nicholas ; song and chorus, "Father, dear Father," Miss E. Finer; dialogue, "The Eeformed Father," Mr T. Eose and Master Scown ; chorus, "Lot it Pass"; address, Mr J. Jones; trio, " Home in Heaven," Misses Young, Collingwood, and Kells ; recitation, " The Drunkard's Story," Master F. Jones; chorus, " The Social Glass," Choir ; recitation, " The Two Sixpences," Miss E. Finer ; recitation, Miss A. Day; dialogue, " Indigestion, or a Scotchman's notion of Moderation," Masters /. . Scrivener and F. Jones ; chorus, " Sound the Battle Cry," Choir ; :„ recitation, "The Warning Dream," Miss E. Davidson; chorus, "Sign To-night," Choir; solo and chorus, " Don't go near the Bar-room, Brother," Miss A. Sargeant ; recitation, "We'll Gang to Kirk awa," Miss E. Vincent; recitation, "The Affrighted Toper," Master Dallas; recitation, Master A. Mailman ; recitation, Master D. Eyre; chorus, "Love at Home," Choir. After a few remarks from the Chairman, and singing the Doxology, the meeting separated, all showing by their happy faces that they had thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
