WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB.

The adjourned general meeting of this Club, for the consideration of the programme of the Autumn Meeting, was held at the Pier Hotel last night. There were present — Messrs W. T. Owen (in the chair), F. R. Jackson, Heslop, Paterson, Pollock, Hutchison, H. N. Harrison, F. Harrison, J. Fleetwood, J. Lomax, H. Nixon, J. W. Jackson, Watkins, Chubbin, C. Durie, Ballam, A. Hi"°ie, J. Hah-, J. Stone, Wilford, Betts, J. G.Wilson, Thatcher, W. Wilson, F. W. Han-ison, Saimders, Fitzherbert; Abbott, Rowe, E. A. Campbell, A. Hogg, Axup, Cotter, and Drs Connolly, Earle, and Donaldson. In accordance with notice, Mr F. R. Jackson moved, That all proceedings in connection with the programme of the Autumn Meeting be rescinded. — Mr Fleetwood objected to the motion as not being in order. He did not intend to obstruct business, and if the majority of the meeting was in favour of the resolutions arrived at last meeting being rescinded, he would offer no opposition. —Mr Watkins stated that Mr J. P. Watt — the mover of the motion that the Cup be run on the first day— had requested him to ask leave to withdraw that motion. — After some discussion, it was resolved, That at the annual meeting, to be held in July of each year, the Club shall elect, by ballot, stewards (not to exceed seven), judge, clerk of the scales, clerk of the course, handicapper, timekeeper, starter, secretaiy, and treasurer and shall also elect a committee o; eleven, the judge and treasurer to be ex officio members of the committee, whose duties it shall be to frame the programmes and conduct the general business of the Club for the ensuing year. Five to form a quorum. Dr Earle proposed that the Coinmitte when elected be deputed to frame the Autumn programme. Mr Pollock pointed out that such a motion was unnecessary; part of the business for which the Committee was appointed was to frame the programme. The following Committee were elected : —Messrs W. Wilson, J. G. Wilson, A. Higgie, Betts, Morse, Thatcher,;H. N. . Harrison, J. Heslop, J. P. Watt, W. j Lowes, and Dr Earle. The Disqualification of Mata. — Mr Chubbin moved, That the disqualification of the racehorse Mata, and the rider, Rae, by the Victoria Racing Club, be endorsed by this Club.— The Secretary said he had had no official information with regard to the alleged pulling of this horse. — Mr Watkins said that the fact that the horse had been disqualified in Victoria and New South Wales was quite sufficient for them. — Mr Betts proposed as an amendment, and Mr Cotter seconded, That no notice be at present taken of the disqualification of Mata. — Mr Thatcher would support the amendment. He thought the V. R. C. might have been courteous enough to intimate the disqualification to tte Wanganui Club.— Mr T. Rowe considered that such swindles as that with which Mata had been concerned, and by which the New Zealand public had lost £60,000, should be discouraged and put down by every means, otherwise honest racing would decline. He would support the motion. — Dr Earle said that by passing such a motion the Club might be doing a great wrong to the owner of the horse. There might still be evidence to adduce on the other side which would clear the matter up, and he thought the Club had better wait until it had official information before it. — Mr Pollock held the same view. Rae, the rider of Mata, had been engaged as trainer by Dr Printz, of Christchurch, and if the Club passed the proposed resolution the effect would be that Dr Printz's stable would be debarred from competing on our turf. The amendment was carried. Notice of Motion. — Mr Fleetwood gave notice that he would move at next meeting, That the names of the members of the Wanganui Jockey Club for the last five years, together with the names of their proposers and seconders, and the amount of their arrears (if any), be placed in printed form upon the table of the Club at the next meeting. — The i Secretary said it was impossible to furnish a return exactly as required, as the names of proposers and seconders had not been kept. Honorarium. —Mr Paterson moved and Mr Fleetwood seconded, That a honorarium of £20 be presented to Mr Charles Ranson, in recognition of his services in connection with the Club. — Carried. Rules. — Mr Pollock moved, That the new rules referring to the management of the Club be re-committed. Seconded by Mr Wilson, and earned. New Members. — The following new members were balloted for and elected : —Messrs J. J. Crawford, G. Sheriff, A. Sheriff, W. J. Cameron, Skelly, and Dr Skerrnan. Messrs Paul, Dodson, and A. Young were proposed as members of the Club. The meeting then closed.
