July 18. ; The "Very Eev. A. P. Stanley, Dean of "Westminster, is alarmingly ill, and his ] physicians give no hope of his recovery. Evening. , In the House of Commons to-day Mr Gladstone announced that the Irish Land Commission had been appointed, and would consist of the following mem- ■ bers : — Lord O'Hagan (Lord Chancellor of Ireland), Mr E. F. Litton (member , for Tyrone), and Mr Vergon (land ■ agent). July 19. : Dean Stanley died to-day, aged 66. : Very general surprise is expressed at • the names of the members of the Irish Land Commission. The appointments are considered Aveak, and will be , strongly opposed by Irish members in the House of Commons. The Australian and New Zealand mails, via Suez and Brindisi, which left Melbourne on June 7, were delivered here to-day.
