WELLINGTON.
Marcli 8. Captain Bendall returned froni the wreck of the Mohaka yesterday, and leaves for there again this evening, with men and gear, to try and get the vessel off. At a meeting of the City Council last night they decided to decline the offer of £64,000 from the Harbour Board, and resolved to adhere to the original price of £70,000. An answer to that effect has heen sent to the Harbour Board to-day. Quite a rush was made to-day to pay the Property Tax ; over 400 payments were made by 2.30. Mr E. W. Mills has filed a declaration of insolvency, all endeavours to make satisfactory arrangements having failed. Mr Henry Baker, an old and wellknown settler, was found dead on the road at Horokiwi Valley yesterday. He was 60 years of age, and arrived here in 1842. The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church will be opened here this evening.
