HARBOUR IMPEOVEMENTS.
.*. TO THE EDITOR. Sin, — There have been a number of rumours floating about the town during the last day or two, to the effect that a serious accident has occurred to the dredge. I have been informed by several persons that the machinery has been thoroughly disabled through the buckets coming in contact with a large snag in the river-bed. Can you inform your i-eaders whether there is any truth in this statement. — I am, &c, A Ratepayer. [We have heard these rumours and made enquiries respecting them. So far as we can loam the damage done by this accident is greatly exaggerated. We understand a snag wa« encountered, but the harm done was confined to the breaking of one of the brackets carrying the roller on. which the buckets move. It has since been repaired. — Ed.'Wastg.
