February 24. The Lunatic Asylum enquiry will be resumed to-morrow, at 2 p.m., when Mrs Kettle, the matron, will be the first person examined. Telegraphic communication with the Fire Brigade Stations and Government buildings is now complete,, with alarm signals. v Application has been made to the Corporation for a remission of water rates on account of insufficient supply. The Public Works Committee decline to recommend that the application be acceded to. In Cameron's £5000 sweep, out of 60 tickets sold by Aldous four non-starters were drawn. The excitement re the Terawhiti goldfields is increasing. A large number will visit the'Te'ef by way of steamer on Saturday. The Caswell" Sound Marble Company has been successfully floated, and a large number of Melbourne and West Coast capitalists are in the undertaking. Preliminary steps are being taken to export frozen meat from this port to London. The wreck of the brig Clematis was sold yesterday for £16. The New Zealand Shipping Company have received advices of the arrival of the 6pawa at London from Lyttelton ; 79 days out.
