THE WORLD SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP

TO THE EDITOR. •" Sib, — Now that Hanlan has despatched both Trickett and Laycock, and with such apparent ease, it is the general impression amongst the friends of the latter that Hanlan used other means than science and superior skill to accomplish the defeat. It is said he had compressed air in his boat, whioh was relieved by means of a sliding seat, through a tube so constructed on either side of his boat as to escape public gaze by being hidden in the water. This is very feasible, but how is it to be done ? Any of your readers that can inform me on the subject will oblige. I i Sculls.
