FIRE AT PALMERSTON
+ (special to the chronicle.) Palmerston, February 23. A fire broke out at 2 o'clock this morning in a shop and dwelling? in Broad-street, Palmerston North, the property of Mr Goodison, the building being totally destroyed. Young Goodison is one of the original prospectors of the Fitzherbert reef, and as the premises were unoccupied he used them last evening for burning some quartz. He left at 10 o'clock, when all appeared light. The building was insured in the South British for £100. The premises were valued at £200, but, as they are in the Hutt Building Society, nothing comes to the proprietor, who has been away from Palmerston for a fortnight.
