June 23. It is understood that Mr Ballance is to move, when the Beer Tax is before the House, that the tax be reduced from 6d to 3d per gallon ; also, that he has secured a large following on his amendment. It is rumoured that the hours of the Civil Servants will shortly be altered from the present to from nine a.m. to five p.m. At a meeting of delegates of the Licensed Victuallers' Association it was resolved to ask the Premier to meet a deputation ; also, that certain members' of the House be asked to introduce a deputation, for the purpose of suggesting amendments in the Licensing Act.
