WELLINGTON.

June 22. At a meeting of tbe Licensed Victuallers yesterday, it was stated that the brewers of Wellington ate taking no Bteps to have the tax taken off beer. The fact is they are working strenuously for the repeal of the tax. During a severe storm on Saturday night a large rata tree on Drake's farm, at Johnsonville, was struck by lightning, and shivered to pieces. Some of the shattered fragmeats were carried a distance of three or four hundred yards from where the tree stood. Applications are invited by the Education Board for a head-master for the Featherston school. A teacher is also required for the Park Vale school, at Carterton.
