PATEA.

Sept. 16. The confiscated land sale held to-day was a great success. The attendance was large, and among the competitors was a fair sprinkling of visitors from other Provinces. The bidding for suburban sections on the east bank of the Patea river, opposite the town of Carlyle, was particularly brisk. This land is of a swampy character. The sections were put up at £3 an acre, and realised from £5 to £34 per acre ; the purchasers were principally local. The allotments in the Okotuku District were not so keenly contested for, but the allotments sold realised a considerable advance on the upset price, the top figure being £6 per acre. All the allotments offered were sold, with the exception of about 12. The character of the land is said to be rugged and thickly timbered. The total amount realized was £13,500.
