RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Friday, 12th March, 1875. (Before Major Edwards, R.M.) BREACH OF THE MUNICIPAL BYE-LAWS. \viti. McCartney, a boy, was charged, on the information of the Inspector of Nuisances, with a breach of the above Act, by throwing night soil into the river. Defendant pleaded guilty, and said he had been told by his employer, in the ' Herald ' office, to firow the night soil where he did. Mr Hodge appeared on behalf of the Corporation, and said that as there was likely to be but a amali tine inflicted, he would ask the Magistrate to caution the public in order to prevent a repetition of the offence. The fi.M. said that as it was the first offence of the kind that had been brought before him, he would deal leniently with it,
hut should another case of the kind be brought on he would inflict this full penalty; In this casts ho would inflict a fiti-e ci 5s and costs, including three wituusses' expenses. CIVIL. John Hurley & Co. v. — Kiddle.—Claim£ll 0s 2d. No appearance of defendant. Judgment for £J0 10s 2d, and costs.
