A writ for the election of a member of the House of Representatives for City West, in room of T. . B. Gillies resigned, was issued yesterday by G, S. Cooper, Clerk of Writs. The Government have received a telegram from Messrs Yogel, Julyan, Sergeant, and Featherston stating that a four million loan had been negotiated through Messrs Rothschilds. The loan has been issued, bearing 4| per cent interest. Particulars will shortly follow. Dr Buller has purchased, on behalf of some one else, between 5000 and 6000 acres in the Parae Karetu block. Price, between ,£SOOO and £6000. The writ issued for the seat vacated by T. B. Gillies is returnable on the loth April. The Scottish Volunteers fired for district prizes Ballinger made a score of 71, and takes first prize ; Captain Crowe, second ; Sergeant-Major Stevens, third. M. W. Levin appointed Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce : and Geo. Hunter Deputy Chairman. A committee of 15 was. appointed.

An address to Mr Fox, signed by all the members of the House of Representatives who voted with him after no confidence debate against Ministry of Stafford in 1872, will j>e presented to the honourable gentleniari io-marrow, by as many of the members of the House as happen to be in Wellington.

Messrs Webb and Fulton, owners of the steam collier Easby, are about to purchase another steamer to trade in conjunction with the Easby.
