Feb 27 tc TO THE ELECTORS OF THE RANGITIKEI DISTRICT. /GENTLEMEN,— Mr Fox having vX publicly announced to you his intention of immediately resigning his Seat in the House of Representatives, I beg most respectfully to announce myself as a Candidate for your suffrages at the forthcoming Election. Though I have, like your late member, been a consistent supporter of Provincial Institutions ever since their introduction, and done my best to make them the means of advancing the prosperity and good government of the Colony, I am quite prepared to admit that the many changes which have occurred have rendered them no longer applicable to the circumstances of the North Island. 1 frankly accept the resolutions of the House of Eepresentatives on the subject passed last session as representing the general voice of the Colony, and I am prepared to give the Government my support in carrying these resolutions into effect. I am, as I always have been, a thorough supporter of the Public Works and Immigration Scheme now in course of operation, and if elected, will do my best to promote its success, both in the Colony as a whole, and on the West Coast of this Island in particular. I am, and ever have been, the advocate of popular Institutions, and desire to see effect given to the will of the people, and the expenditure of local taxation, and endowments directed by popular control, through the machinery of purely Local Institutions. Without assuming any personal credit, I may remind you that from my arrival in the Colony, upwards of thirty years ago, my interests have been identified with those of th^ West Coast, that my prosperity, and that of my family' are bound up with this part of the Colony ; and I trust that I may, without egotism, appeal to the share which personally I have contributed, and am contributing towards the advancement of the districts avound Wanganui, and to the many friendships, political and otherwise, which I have the satisfaction of enjoying among you. In conclusion, I may state that I have already sent in my resignation of my seat in the Provincial Executive, a step which I hope will meet with your approval, and secure your support. I have the honor to be, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, W. H. WATT. March 5. 0t *%_ WAN3AEHU HIGHWAY BOARD.
