March 4. An interprovincial boat race has been arranged for the 20th March.
Another length of 20 miles of the Southern railway from Ashburtou to Rangitata will be ready for opening on the Ist of May.
A Snider carbine match between ten men of the Cavalry and and a like number of the Artillery was tired yesterday five shots each at 150, 200, aud 300 yards ; Artillery, 466; Cavalry, 437. Sergt Fox, Artillery, made 57 out of a possible 60. A statement appears in the Globe, from a. reliable correspondent, whom, however, the: Globe does not vouch for, that a moa's. track has been discovered at Oxford Bush,. forty miles from Christchurch, on March 2nd. Three people are alleged to have seen the footprints, each measuring six inches, the distance between each footprint being from 7to 9 feet. They followed the tracks half-a- milu.

Cattle market yesterday well attended. Warm competition for beef at 27s 6d p^r lOOlbs ; f&t sheep, 2d to 2M per lb. ; merino ewes, Id to l^d perlb. ; crossbred ewes, 7s to 12s each. Store cattle sold, at excessive rates.
The entries tor the Fair to-morrow com prise 1,990 rams and 1,320 ewes.
