Te Ua, tho prophet, after diis . tour with the Governor, is about to return to his old haunts. Ho arrived'at Wanganui with tho Storm Bird cn route for Taranaki. Notice of Motion. —Mr Bryce to move “'That his Honor the Superintendent be requested to. place cn the Estimates the siim of £ISOO for piling the right bank of the -Wanganui River, and improving the navigation thereof.” TV vo Sale.—Yesterday afternoon (says the ‘ Wellington. Independent ’ of the 7th inst.) about'* 1097 acres of land,' in the Wai-nui-o-niaia and Rangiiikoi districts were sold at tlio Crown Lands * Office. Ho person was present except the applicants, and there' was consequently no competition. 457 acres at Waimii-o-matn was Gold for 53 per aero to Mr John Cameron, and 640 acres at llangitifce'i were disposed of' to W. Waring Taylor, Esq., at the upset price of ss.

Sauls Gpbxatic JTXahmonists. This celebrated band of Harmonists, ' belonging to tho 14th Regiment, whoso' vocal and comic capabilities, we had. occasion to notice in such favourable terms, on making their debut in Wanganui on a recent occasion, it will be observed, make a second appearance in tho Princess Theatre to-night. The remembrance of the*fun enjoyed at last appearance will, no doubt lead to a crammed house ■■how,'and wo have dono enough in directing attention to!tho thing at present..-

WAXCrAwixi 'Pise Bbicadb.— At a meeting of persons favourable to the formation of a Eire Brigade in Wanganui, held : in The Rutland Hotel, on Wednesday evening, it was agreed to enrol members. . Thirty - three persons gave'in their names M-ccord-ingly,Arko -may be -considered as making no a very effective company. At a subsequent meeting those gentlemen jvyill, no doubt, elect oiuco-boarors and’ proceed to obtain the “ sinews cf war.” .'The various insurance companies in town may bo expected to come down handsomely in aid of the money that will bo required to purchase a Eire Engine ; and wc liavo nt> doubt the inhabitants generally will give their support to. an enterprise which may be. so useful.

Grammar, School.—The Commit-bee-of this Institution, at a meeting held on Thursday last, appointed Mr "West, teacher at Newmarket, Auckland, to the vacant situation of muster of the Grammar School, here. The salary guaranteed is £3OO a- ! year. Mr West, we understand, has very excellent testimonials both to his private character and pi’ofessional ability. Cobb’s Coaches. —lt may be mentioned that some changes have just been introduced into the details of running these coaches between Wanganui and Wellington,, the chief of which is that horses are now changed at Giccson’s, Turakina, instead of at Signall’s, Tutaenui. Messrs Forrester and Co. have aho become lessees of the Bed Lion Stables, where roadsters will have their wants duly attended to. But these changes are merely preliminary to certain steps still farther in advance. “Cobb ”is at once a pioneer and a coloniser. We believe in three or four weeks the present company will have a fine light coach running daily, between Turakina and Wanganui. And in little more than double that time the coaches will most likely make a triweekly service between Wanganui ; and Wellington, leaving both termini every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morbi ic rs. This is a great matter, and one on v.AAh wo may well congratulate the settlers of the several districts through which “ Cobb” ! wends his way. There may be even more ' than this in store for us. Capt. Anderson has an idea that, ere many months are over he will be found driving four-in-hand from Wanganui to the Patea. We hope so, and considering what- has been done by this firm elsewhere, there is nothing of mere; boast about such a statement. “Cobb ” now runs from Wellington to Masterton, between daylight and darkness, while it is not very long since that journey took a day and a half. Thus we progress ! ' ■Christ Church, Wanganui. This' church is rapidly approaching towards its completion, and will (D.V.) be consecrated about the middle of July. A much larger sum than could have well been expected has been contributed by the. parishioners and the military stationed in this .district, collected in a great measure by the ladies, wh o are ever found to be most forward in doing good works.' But tbe amount obtained still falls short of what is necessary fullyto complete the building, and tomakeit such an edifice as the house of God should be. The cost of the church, so as to make it fit for present use, is about I/.1200, and there is a balance of LSO still to bo obtained, to enable’the Building. Committee to defray their present liabilities. The above-named.sum will by no means cover the cost of. the spire, the further internal decorations and .painting, and the fittings necessary for, the, full accommodation of the parishioners, which works tho parish officers have in contemplation. These necessary additions will involve a. further outlay of, about L4OO, which sum, it is confidently hoped, will- be cheerfully furnished by the inhabitants of this now wealthy district, when they. are. enabled to realise wliat it. is to have.a 1 beautiful and commodious house of prayer. : Above L3OO have been raised by means of, two sales of articles contributed by the; ladi‘o3 of Wanganui, and obtained from England, for which the thanks of the coin-, munity are due to Mrs. 11. Hurley and .other ladies who cheerfully gave their time and labour to forward this holy under taking.; —(Communicated.) :
