THE, Owners of those which have been for some-time infected with -Scab, who haye not" diligently used means for curing" it; thereby infecting theibneighbours’ flocks—Are hereby warned. That if their sheep are not found clean, & branded according bo regulation, at the inspections, in March & April next; they will be fined in accordance with, the Act of the Provincial Council of Wellington Session 1.; No. "20 Clauses £ and 5 ; wdiicjh.. are .as follows.:- — . ■ 4* That if any person • bim&lfi or >by means of any. one under his control-, shall turn out, keep, or depasture any sheep or lambs infected with either ; of -the - said dis- • eases, on any land intersected or crossed by: any public road, and shall omit to affix a notice' .ofjhei existence of such: infection, in some and of sueli public road where it «»>«»• »«-•“»* —*» renew or replace such, notice as . often as need be during the time of. the existence of such infection, he shall be liable to a penalty of not less than-Two Pounds,... 5. From and after the.first,day of June, in the year of our. Lord one thousand eight hundred aud fifty-four, all sheep and lambs above the age of six months, within the Province of Wellington, shall be branded on the wool thereof with the brand of the owner; and .every owner of. any such sheep or lambs not being so branded,, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding five pounds : j and if the said sheep, or.lambs not being so j branded shall exceed four huiuired jti.number, such owner shall be liable.-to a further penalty of not less than three, pence, nor more than six pence, for every such-., sheep or lamb not being branded as aforesaid. And all persons Haying scabbed sheep are hereby! informed that in case of infection' communicated to other ~ flocks, they are, liable for , damages in accordance with Section: 1A of the same Act, which■ declares .: 14. Nothing in this //ct shall be con? strued to limit or deprive any person suffering loss or damage from, the driving, depasturing, or suffering to stray, .of any such infected sheep or lam.bs ’as, aforesaid, of any action or remedy which’ lie. may have at law or otherwise for obtaining,redress or compensation for such losy or damage, from the person liable thereto. . The Inspector ..alsa' calls the attention of Sheep, Farmers to the following Glauses of the Act of the Provincial ©Ouncil of Wellington, Session IVl ! No 8 defining the duties of. Sheep Inspectors. Clause o. It shall be the duty of the Inspector whenever it shall be reported to him that Sheep infected with Scab or other contagious or infectious disease are being driven into or. through his. district to take immediate steps to stay the entry into or further progress through his district of such sheep, and for that purpose not only to lay information of such infringement: of the law before the nearest Justice of the but to give notice to the person in charge of such sheep to return, and in. case of noncompliance by the to return immediately to the place from whence he started to detain such .Sheep/or to Employ such drivers and other assistants he the Inspector may think sufficient to take back such Sheep to the place-! whence they started. Clause 10. The terra /‘Station” shall include not only the Stations or Runs held under license from the Government., whether General or Provincial,.but also all properties (freeholds or leaseholds) on which Sheep are depastured or kept.
