Meteoro logical Observations. — Some time since, the General Government, with the view of ascertaining and recording the atmospheric phenomena of New Zealand, sent home for a number of scientific instruments- These have lately been, received in Auckland, and have thence been distributed among the various provinces. To Hawke’s Bay the following have been allotted 1 barometer, 4 spirit thermometers, 2 mercurial thermometers, 1 standard thermometer, 1 attached thermometer-, 1 wind rguage, and 1 rain guage. These, by one, of the last arrivals, came safely to hand. Wh learn that they are of the latest construction and best description. They will be entrusted to the Chief Surveyor, who will undertake the somewhat onerous duty 01. making the, necessary observations, and transmitting them periodically to Dr. Knight, who is the officer appointed by the General Government for the purpose of making the necessary calculations, and. of tabulating them in a convenient form for statistical publication.— Herald. Tiie Electoral Rolls for the province appear as a supplement to yesterday’s Government. Gazette. We find that Napier has 208 electors ; Napier Country, 80 ; Clive, G 4 ; Porangahau, 21 ; Mohaka, 19 ; Waipukurau, 46 ; Te Aute, 75 ; Waimarama (originally South Clive), 29. Total votes for the province, 542. —ld. ■

International Exhibition. Some samples of wool intended for transmission to the Exhibition have already been forwarded to the local commissioners.— ld. Wesleyan Church Soiree. —On Wednesday the 18th nit., a tea meeting was held in aid of the Wesleyan church fund. It was addressed by the bev. Messrs. Barclay and Shaw. A number of pieces of appropriate music were sung and played on the harmonium. The gross proceeds amounted to 37/ ss, and, after deducting expences, above 30/ remained to the building fund of the church. Land Sales.— During the month of August, 10,915 acres were sold, yielding 2643/.
