The Airedale arrived at Nelson from Sydne* on the 24th, with the English mail. On the 21st Nov. the 3rd Battery, 4th Brigade o< Royal Artillery embarked on board the troopship Norwood for New Zealand. In consists of Capt. Mercer in command ; second Capt. W. //. W atson, second Capt. A. S. Hunter, Zieuts. H. C. Magenis, and A.T. Pickard, Assistant Surgeon, IV. Temple, and 256 non commissioned Officers and men. 1 here were also shipped the 12-pounder Armstrong guns of the battery and a large quantity of shot, shell, and other warlike stores. Capt. Watson comes by the overland mail to buy horses in Victoria and forward them to Taranaki, so that they may be ready ou the arrival of the Norwood.

On the recommendation of a board of officers that had sat for three weeks at the /Far Office —troops are to be employed in bush fighting. They are to be clothed imb blue flannel jersey, fatigue cap, and buffs, leather gaiters and boots to lace outside, and each man will carry a hatchet., a tomahawk, a strong jack knife, a tin pot, his cloak rolled, a new oilskin haversack, with provisions ready cooked inside, and a tin pot to boil his tea in. The ration is to be 1 lb. meat, 1| lb. biscuit, 1 gill rum, coffee, tea, sugar, salt, pepper, vinegar, and mustard—all to be served out free as long as the men are before the enemy. Coolies are to be brought from India to follow the mfen with provisions and ammunition. The board recommended that large supplies of rockets, hand mortars, and shells, should be sent out, and that no rest should be allowed the enemy day or night. Two regiments are said to be en their way from India. One detachment have already arrived at Taranaki.
