By the Airedale, from Auckland, which arrived last night, instructions have been received from the Government to call out the Militia in this province.— Nelson Examiner , May 5. The Races commenced on Tuesday, 11th April, and as far as favourable weather and the attention of the Stewards and Constabulary could contribute to render them attractive, nothing could be better. The number of accidents has been unusually large to the horses in trainingthis year, a promising mare of Mr. Stafford’s out of Sti’op’s dam, by Sir Hercules, slipped her hip early in the year while at exercise; Miss Rowe has never been sound since she landed from Sydney; Io has a questionable leg; Ultima.an indifferent hock; Wetsail has fallen lame since her return from Canterbury, as likewise has Betty Martin.
