THE WANGANUI CHRONICLE AND RANGITIKEI MESSENGER. “ Verite sans peur." Wanganui, March 22, 1860.
JVe extract from the Wellington papers full particulars of the Hutt races, which took place on the 14th and 15th inst. On the following clay the cricket match between the eleven of Auckland and Wellington took place; the former were winners, the score being—Wellington, 110; Auckland 112, with 4 wickets to go down. The troops at JFellington were embarked last Thursday evening, per Airedale, for Taranaki, to reinforce the garrison there. The militia had been called out by Major Trafford, commanding officer; the balloting was concluded on Saturday last.
By the steamer Pirate, arrived at Otago, we have news from England to the 28th Dec., being nine days later. We give the particulars received in another column. The Wairarapa and Wanganui districts have been brought by proclamation under the Militia Act of 1858.
