NATIVE COMMITTEE OF AHURIRI FOR THE REDRESS OF GRIEVANCES.

With reference to the proceedings of the above Committee, we take the following telegram from the Evening Post:— Napiee, July 6th. At the Native meeting yesterday at Omahu, about a new building, the chief Renata made an important speech. He said he had been asked to contribute to the redress of Native grievances. He had already given £4OO, which had all gone to lawyers, but there had been no result. He should give no more. Advised his people to do the same. Said he, like all

other men, had grievances, but he found when lie went to the Gevernment and made proper representations he got relief. The G-overnment had done much for him and his people in the matter of roads and schools. When he was dead, G-overnment would care for the education of the young. Much money was being collected by the Committee for the redress of grievances, but it was all going the same way as his £-100—to the lawyers.
