DEATH OF HOERA NGAHAUPAKEKE.

We publish the following at the request of the Ngatirahiri tribe, of Taranaki:— This is a notice- of the death, of our friend Hoera ngahaupakeke (who was taken from us by the hand ot death on the 24th of January last), that his relations residing in other parts may hear of his decease. On the 23rd ot January, Te leti Wherokino put the following questions to him:—" Do you realize the value of religion?" Answer—"Yes; I knowthat my Redeemer, Christ, liveth." "Do you remember that Lazarus was raised from the dead?" Answer—" Yes ; Christ raised him to life, and Christ will also raise me to life." \yhen he was near death, on the 24th, he said to his people:—" Pare well, my people. When lam gone, live in peace and show love to all men." And his last words were:—" Holdfast to the faith, lest ye fall into sin." We are in great sorrow and affliction for our friend who has gone from our sight. He was a magistrate, and a true friend of both Pakehas and Maoris. Some 400 persons attended his funeral obsequies, amongst whom were representatives from thirteen tribes. "And I heard a voice from Heaven, saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours ,• and their works do follow them."
