MASTERTON COUNTY

COUNCIL MEETING PURCHASE OF LAND AT TE ORE ORE. RUAMAHANGA RIVER WORK. At yesterday’s meeting of the Masterton County Council the chairman, Mr R. E. Gordon Lee, was appointed to represent the council on the Wairarapa District Highways Council. It was decided to purchase a further three acres of land adjacent to the county workshops at Te Ore Ore. The Hutt Valley Harbour Board Commission advised that the time for suggestions had been increased by three months. The matter of arranging a meeting of Wairarapa local body representatives with the two Wairarapa members of the Harbour Board was left in the hands of the County Clerk (Mr J. C. D. Mackley) to arrange with the Masterton Town Clerk. Mr R. J. Whiteman was appointed assistant County Clerk. The Te Ore Ore River Board estimates for 1944-1945 were approved. The rate levy is the same as last year. Application is to be made to the Government for additional financial assistance to enable urgent work to be carried out in the Ruamahanga River during the current financial year. It was decided to invite ratepayers to meet the board at its meeting on July 11.
