SOLDIERS FROM PACIFIC
GIVEN WARM WELCOME IN AUCKLAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Returning from service in the Pacific a contingent of New Zealand soldiers marched through Auckland this morning to receive a civic welcome. The men were obviously glad to be home, but all looked cold on this chilly June day. As a spontaneous reception to men who had been in battle, it was the most impressive homecoming of the war so far. The Minister of Rehabilitation (Major Skinner) extended a welcome on behalf of the Government and said there was the highest appreciation of the way in which the men had carried cut their job. They had formed a bulwark between their country and the enemy, and had come back to take part in essential industry, a duty as important as serving overseas. New Zealand had to produce foodstuffs as never before. The Minister gave an assurance ■ that the men, when discharged, would have every assistance in the way of rehabilitation.
A message from Major-General Barrowclough expressed thanks and appreciation for the good work done by forces under his command in the South Pacific in arduous campaigns.
