COURT BUSINESS
SITTING IN MASTERTON CARRIAGE OF RACEHORSES The fortnightly sitting of the Masterton Magistrate's Court was held today. Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., was on the Bench. Benjamin J. McKnight, racehorse owner and trainer, of Tauherenikau, was fined £5 and 10s costs on each of two charges relating to the carriage of racehorse over 30 miles by road. On one charge £2 2s costs were allowed. Mr Lawry said the fines were in keeping with the fines imposed for similar first offences in another district. Donald Cameron Ross was fined £1 and 10s costs for having driven a car without a drivers’ licence and 15s and £1 2s costs for having parked a car on a footpath. R. G. Blinkhorne, taxi-driver, was fljned 10s and £1 0s 6d costs on each of two charges relating to a breach of the borough traffic by-laws. The breaches related to plying a taxi for hire from a place other than a public stand and exceeding the parking time in Bannister Street. 0 Civil Case. Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following undefended civil claim: Bullick Blackmore, Ltd. v. H. Wehipeihana, claim £7 19s, cost £1 15s 6d.
