MADE BY CHINESE FORCES IN YUNNAN OUTSKIRTS OF LOYANG. REACHED BY RELIEVING FORCE IN HONAN. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 1.15 p.m.) CHUNGKING, May 24. Continuing their offensive from Yunnen, despite heavy rains, Chinese troops, supported by the Chinese and American Air Force, surrounded Tatangtzy and Peitsaikungfang, killing over 200 Japanese and capturing large quantities of supplies. The Chinese have reached the outskirts of Loyang. ATTACK ON MYITKYINA DETAIL SUCCESSES IN OTHER AREAS VIGOROUS ALLIED AIR ACTION ( (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) A South-East Asia communique says: •After beating off a Japanese coun-ter-attack, General Stilwell’s Chinese troops, on the western outskirts of Myitykina, advanced to the junction of the railway and road leading from the landing-strip. Other elements effectively blocked the road between the airport and Myitykina proper. South of Myitykina, other Chinese repulsed enemy attacks near the Zigyun ferry. Chindits continue to exert pressure south of Mogaung, and during the past 48 hours have killed over 100 Japanese. East of the Mogaung Valley, the Chinese 38th Division has made headway, while west of the Mogaung River the Chinese 22nd Division took six enemy positions. “South and south-west of Kohima, our troops on Tuesday improved their positions on the ridges overlooking the town by occupying further enemy strongpoints. In the Bishenpur area, our troops captured a strongly-held village and inflicted heavy enemy casualties.
“Successful Allied activity is reported in Arakan and other sectors.
“R.A.F. fighters and fighter-bombers on Monday and Tuesday, for the loss of one aircraft, maintained attacks on communications, enemy positions and military objectives.”
