OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS

MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS ' (To the Editor.) Sir, —My letter in your paper of May 16 was evidently deemed of sufficient importance to call forth replies from the Labour Publicity Committee and my old friend “Nauticus.” I trust, “Nauticus,” Mr. Robertson will not twig your ear for your letter in last Saturday's “Times-Age.” You have indeed, let the cat out of the bag, and now the public can really judge what the Labour ticket stands for and will not be bluffed. You admit that the Labour ticket is entirely political. Chief point gained. I am sorry you were not capable . of grasping the meaning of my letter. I know perfectly well loans have- to be approved by the ratepayers, but the ratepayers have no say in the striking of annual rates. I have no fault to find with the Labour ticket borough council manifesto, but no indication is given as to how it is going to be carried out and what is going to be used for money. This manifesto is not by any means new, and is simply being used as a sprat to catch a mackerel. Mr. Robertson, exLabour M.P., and mayoral candidate in one of his addresses, stated he would have no compunction in increasing rates if his council thought necessary, and that Masterton was a Labour town. I repeat that an entirely Labour council is equivalent to an open cheque signed by .the ratepayers. I am now content to leave the issue in the hands of the sensible voting public.— I am, etc., “GOODYCUSS.” ‘ Masterton, May 23.
