MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS BOROUGH COUNCIL NOMINATIONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following additional nominations have been received in connection with the municipal elections: Mayoralty: Douglas Lacy Taverner, nominated by J. L. Harris and W. rence, Geo. Brown, L. H. Smart. Thomas Henry Callingham (nominated by Ethel Maud Collerton and Otto Anderson. Councillors: Wilfred Ronald Harry, nominated by J. L. Harries and W. Gregor. Walter Alfred Hart, nominated by C. A. Chennells and H. J. Rathbone. Howard Edward Jackson, nominated by A. Tinsley and J. G. Morris. Charles Edward Stevens (nominated by A, C. Tucker and C. J. De Lacey). Personal Items. Private lan Dykes, son of Mr. Gavin Dykes, of Napier, who recently returned from the Middle East, is visiting friends in Carterton. Sergeant Hamer, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Hamer, of Marton, is visiting relatives in Carterton. At the Citizens’ Patriotic Committee dance at the State Theatre on Saturday night occasion will be taken to extend a welcome to Private O. J. Goodin, who has returned from overseas. At the conclusion of the business of the deputation which waited upon Mr.' D. L. Taverner yesterday asking him to allow himself to be nominated for the Mayoralty, regret was expressed by Mr. J. A. B. Lawrence and the Mayor : that the Deputy-Mayor (Councillor E. McKenzie) was not seeking re-election to the council. Councillor McKenzie, for health reasons, had decided that he would not be a candidate. Both speakers referred to the excellent work done by the Deputy-Mayor and it was decided that a letter be forwarded tc him expressing the hope that his health would soon be restored. Dance at Belvedere. A dance will be held in the Belvedere Schoolroom tomorrow night. The proceeds will be devoted to patriotic purposes. FIRE BOARD. Public Meeting Tonight. i Carterton residents are asked to attend a meeting in the State Theatre tonight at 8 o’clock wife. the urgent' need for a fire board in Carterton will be placed before them. The Mayor and Mr. R. P. Wakelin will address the meeting. The siren will sound at 7.30 o’clock to remind residents of the meeting. REGENT THEATRE DOUBLE FEATURE. A double feature programme of a high standard, will be shown tonight. “Laugh Your Blues Away’ ’is an outstanding comedy in which the chief roles are taken by Bert Gordon and Jinx Falkenburg. “Highways by Night” is a rousing adventure story, with the principal characters portrayed by Richard Carlson.
