NAVAL ATTACKS
ON ENEMY SUPPLY SHIPS OFF NORWAY LARGE & MEDIUM VESSELS SUNK. NUMBER OF OTHERS HIT BY BOMBS. LONDON, May 8. The Royal Navy sailed close to the Norwegian coast to make another successful attack on German supply shipping, Early on Saturday, carrierborne naval aircraft, escorted by fighters, attacked a south-bound enemy convoy off the Norwegian coast. One heavily laden- 10,000-ton supply ship broke in two after having been hit by bombs and a torpedo. A 3,000ton freighter was also sunk. Direct bomb hits were scored on an enemy escort ship and a large tanker was hit by two torpedoes and a bomb. A smaller supply ship was also damaged. Two enemy planes were' shot down. Two British planes are missing. DAMAGING BLOWS STRUCK BY LIGHT CRAFT. MANNED BY FRENCH CREWS. LONDON, May 8. A successful attack on enemy shipping in the English Channel was made early this morning, by light naval forces manned by French crews, who pressed home their attack on a strongly escorted enemy convoy. They got several hits on one supply ship and on an escorting trawler. Both are believed to have been sunk. Other ships were damaged by gunfire. The French forces suffered no casualties and only superficial damage to their ships.
