MR MONTAGU NORMAN RETIRING LORD CATTO PROPOSED AS SUCCESSOR (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, April 6. The Bank of England has announced that Mr Montagu Norman has decided to retire from the governorship at the conclusion of his present' term of office. Mr Norman is making a remarkable recovery from "his serious illness, but his doctors have advised against a resumption of strenuous duties. He has held office for the record time of 24 years.

The directors have accepted his decision with deep regret, and have proposed Lord Catto for the governorship, and Mr B. G. Catterns as deputygovernor. The Chancellor of the' Exchequer has agreed to release Lord Catto from his present position of Financial Adviser to the Treasury.
